Excellent volunteers, bowling, celebrations, and R4 project!

Our volunteer of the week was John Mann. John has been volunteering at The GreenHouse since January 2012. John helps out with Evergreen on Wednesdays and works with the 6th graders. Thanks John for the time you are investing into the 6th graders and The GreenHouse.

For Club 56, the group went out bowling. They had a great time hanging out with each other and knocking down the pins. Here are are few pictures from the night:

On Thursday, R4, our teen program, started with a big celebration! We have been keeping track of all the students grade all year long. The GreenHouse had said that if 75% of the R4 attenders got a 2.0 or higher, they would have pizza party.Well, it finally happened and we all enjoyed some great pizza and drinks.  We now have set a new goal. If 80% of students get 2.8 or higher, they will take a special fieldtrip. Thank you to all the dedicated volunteers who have helped the students become more successful in school.  After R4 on Thursday, Lana, who is the librarian helping with the video project, came to The GreenHouse and brought all the new equipment to show the students how to use them. The teens were able to work with equipment, figure out how it works, and began using their new skills to interview people. Here are a few pictures from Thursday's library project.

The project is coming along great and and the students are learning a lot of great skills.

Spring Break Fun at The GreenHouse!

Before we left for Spring Break, Dawnelle Clark won Volunteer of the Week! Dawnelle has been volunteering with Evergreen since September 2011. She comes every week and works hard with the kids on there homework! Dawnelle also volunteered at our Melvin's Hope Christmas Store. We are so glad that you have joined the The GreenHouse team! You are making a difference in the youth of this community's lives as well as the lives of our families by helping with our other events! Thank You!!!

During Spring Break, we had Awesome Bible Camp! We partnered with Bridge of Life Church and put on a three day bible camp. We had 45 kids attend the program and 30 volunteers! It was a great camp that was filled with skits, crafts, snacks, games, and on the last day, lots and lots of ice cream! All the kids couldn't stop talking about the skits! They thought they were so funny! It was great time for the kids to have something to do during the week! Thank you Bridge of Life for all the hard work you put into the camp! Here are a few pictures at ABC:

On our last day of Spring Break, Emily and I took the first graders on their field trip! We first took them to Mckinley Park where they got to feed the ducks. They also got to play on the playground.
When everyone got hungry, we enjoyed making our own personal pizzas at Emily's house. When they were ready to eat, we all climbed on top of the roof and ate lunch up there. They loved being up there!

And to top it off, we ended the day with some yogurt from Big Spoon! It was a great day! Lots of smiles!

R4's Library project!

Our Junior High and High School after school program is partnering with the South Natomas Library to do a very special project. Our students are creating a project that will be put into the Sacramento Room at the Central Library downtown. The project will be highlighting the history of the Gardenland area and interviewing their family and neighbors. The students are also going to tell their story, their experiences in the project! The students are going to be learning how to interview someone effectively, how to record, put music in the video, and take pictures. Several people are helping with the project that will be teaching them their new skills. The students are very excited about the project and will be working on it until the end of the school year. The South Natomas Library has purchased equipment specifically for this project. The GreenHouse students are the first group of youth to use the equipment and the first to do this project in Sacramento!

Here is a picture of our first visit to the Sacramento Room. This room has the history of Sacramento. The room had old maps and pictures that dated back in the 1800's! They also had all the high school yearbooks since the 1930's The students enjoyed looking up their parents yearbook picture.
